SEARCH strives to notify families in the Inland Empire of local events to ensure that children with autism have access to community interactions. A special emphasis is placed on ensuring low-income, non-English speaking families in the local and broader California communities gain access to appropriate medical and educational resources.

  • Parents may complete a two-minute online survey assessing a variety of issues related to parenting a child with autism. Participants are asked to give feedback regarding SEARCH, current services their child receives, and needed supports in their community. This information will help SEARCH reach-out to families experiencing autism spectrum disorder.
  • Connect with local Autism Society chapters:

Community Efforts: From local to state level

In the fall of 2009, Dr. Jan Blacher, Director of SEARCH, was named Co-chair of the Inland Empire Autism Regional Taskforce. During this past year, the taskforce has called upon the collaborative efforts from members working actively in the autism community to tackle issues affecting individuals and their families on the autism spectrum. In addition, meetings were set to discuss issues regarding housing, training, employment, insurance, and early identification of individuals with autism spectrum disorders. The Inland Empire Autism Regional Taskforce (IEART) was the first of its kind to be established in the Inland Empire and one of the many to be set-up across the state of California by the Senate Select Committee on Autism and Related Disorders .

The purpose of the taskforce is to provide recommendations to the California Senate Select Committee on Autism and Related Disorders; whenever possible, this Senate Committee will work to develop legislative policies related to autism. The goal of the taskforce is related to the mission of SEARCH, to provide knowledge and expertise to the Inland Empire community. In keeping true with our mission, SEARCH will disseminate information compiled from all 12 regional task forces on autism, including activities of the taskforces.
