Navigating the Road From Adolescence to Adulthood:

This webinar series will include topics regarding legal considerations during COVID, the impact of COVID on families with ASD and IDD, the role of mental health on the transition to adulthood, and lastly, we will have a free screening of Autism Goes to College with Spanish subtitles.

1. How long will each webinar be?

Webinars 1-3 will be an hour. Webinar 4 will be approximately 2hrs (film screening and Q&A).

2. Will the webinar recordings be available after their initial date?

Yes, they will be available shortly after the conference concludes.

Guest Experts

Heather Zakson is an attorney specializing in special education and disability civil rights, and consultation in family law custody issues involving children with disabilities. She was awarded the Breaking Education Barriers Award from Learning Rights Law Center and the California Bar Access and Fairness Leadership Academy. She is a graduate of Brandeis University and UCLA School of Law’s Program in Public Interest Law and Policy. Prior to entering private practice, Heather was a Learning Rights staff attorney at Disability Rights Law Center, and before that, worked in healthcare access, workers’ rights and corporate accountability. Heather is also active in organizing and education efforts with special education students, their parents and allies to improve outcomes for all students.

Beth Burt, Executive Director, Inland Empire Autism Society. Inspired by her children, both of whom have special needs, Beth Burt is an author, an international speaker, the Executive Director of the Autism Society Inland Empire, and the President of Autism Society of California. She serves on numerous boards, has participated in many state and local task forces, and has testified in the California Senate. Her passion is to create new programs and services so individuals with autism and their families can have a life of meaning and respect in a safe community.

Christine Moody, Ph.D. UCLA. Christine received her doctorate in clinical psychology from UCLA, specializing in assessment for children and their families. Her research interests focus on identifying factors that promote positive outcomes for teens and young adults with developmental disabilities, such as the importance of mental health and positive relationships for youth. Christine is currently a postdoctoral fellow at UCLA.
